Thank you my friend. Feel free to call me anytime. My offer still stands, if you want to come north and experience what it's like to be a northern hillbilly, I've got room. I would love to have you visit my home sometime. We'll drink, smoke, and kill something.

So Long Folks 03-09-2009 00:56 Forum: S3 Discussion

Recent events have caused me to re-evaluate my life and how I'm spending it. Things are going well now in the Broz house-hold, but that wasn't the case just two weeks ago. My family almost fell apart. I'm not exactly sure why, but I think it's due to me wearing too many hats. Not only do I have a full time job as a teacher, I run an afterschool program, teach alternative ed three nights a week, a union representative, member of the bargaining committee, the insurance chair, planning committee for the school calendar, CO of a warbirds squadron, and to top it off, a soon to be 35 year old man with a wife and two kids.

On top of all this, my true love is in building things, things that perform a function. I've built boats, clocks, various metal working machinery, furniture, cannon, electronics, and the list goes on. Everyone who owns something I've built says that it is still functioning today, many years after I've built it. Building things and tinkering in general was always what I was good at, and teaching was suppose to give me time to teach the subjects I love, math and science, and give me time to build whatever I wanted.

Somewhere through time, I lost my way. I got discouraged and gave up on my passions in life. I'm not sure when that was, but playing warbirds sure helped to pass the time. It took some recent events, which weren't entirely my fault and certainly not fully understood, to make me realize that I've been wasting my time.

I've only flown three times in the last three weeks, that was the S3. During that time I didn't check the boards more than once every few days. During that time my wife and I talked more than we ever have in the last few years. My kids had even bigger smiles on their faces than before (they're happy kids) while learning new skills with me (I am after all a teacher). I found two old sewing machines and learned to sew just 5 days ago from a colleague of mine (the home ec teacher). Today, I made two pillows for the couch while my wife was away with her mother. My son and I are already talking about our next boat project and sewing our own sails.

I've got some business to complete with Ctrout involving some electronics work, and my time off from warbirds has helped me fill my mind with solutions to old problems. I think I'll be moving pretty quickly now. I'm actually looking forward to using the equipment myself, and I think some of you will be too.

Bottom line, there is just too much love to be had, money making projects and jobs to work, game to hunt, fish to fry, shit that needs building, and a family that needs tending to. Of all the things that I would cut back, this seems the obvious choice though it's the toughest to do because I consider you guys friends. I had no problem calling my alternative ed. supervisor and telling him I only wanted to work one night a week. I had no problem telling our union president that I needed to take a back seat except for bargaining issues. But this decision, which I made last week, was the toughest to announce. Go figure?

So, this is fairwell my friends, and my skillful enemies. I'm leaving Warbirds, well, at least until my free month ends from winning the Ferret's race. I won't say that I won't be back, but it would take something big to bring me back, like one of you allied squads stop paying lip service to a growing LW and declaring yourself a JG permanently, or at least refuse to recruit until the JG's are as strong as the allies, for there is a real reason the LW is not doing so well. Even then, I don't think I would have much interest.

Now don't go thinking I'm degrading warbirds or your experiences with it. This is just me, realizing that this was just a place holder to waste some time while I figured out what was important. I know I need to spend my time differently, and I'll post here on occassion to let you know how I'm spending my time.

Now as to who will lead JG27, I've decided Thor should be CO, he is the only one committed enough to do so...

Ha!!! Just kidding. Though he would be a good choice and I almost did that just to fuck with you guys, because you seriously need to be fucked with like that, I mean that. But no, I will spare you that and I have two candidates thinking it over. The new CO will be announced soon.

<S> my friends, I will not be a stranger. I will just be posting on the off topic forum from now on when I do post.

Wow, I haven't read this forum since Monday. I can't say that I miss it either. I haven't even checked the JG27 forums in a few days or flown anything since Sunday, well, except an RC plane. I've been out of the loop here lately. This would have stopped a long time ago had I known it would go on like this. Bottom line, Thor knows he made a mistake, he's admitted it, it's time to move on, and Thor is right about the time issue. He admitted his mistake about half way through this thread, but it kept on going.

Oh, and Thor, Todd has it right about the CO/XO forum, it's situations like these for which the forum was created. I know I haven't been available so you might not have wanted to bother me with this, but we do have an XO. You could have given Zippy the screen shot and let him take it to the CO/XO forum to discuss. That would have been much better.

Alright, well, glad this over.

I haven't been monitoring this forum lately, but I did fly in the S3 last night.

So, to the 352nd and to Thor, when we were engaged for the first time last night, We were at roughly 18,000 ft. You may remember me saying that the cons behind us have SLIGHT energy on us. I believe the ponies were at their max alt of 20,000 ft and not over.

I can't tell much from that screen shot Thor. Now as to other mustang pilots, I don't know. I do know that Yamon accidentally posted on gold channel asking if they could climb once engaged, meaning he was asking if he could take the fight above 20,000ft if engaged. I don't know what the reply to that was, but I don't think that we experienced the 352nd having ponies above 20,000ft.

I was doing testing in the arena before the frame. Warbirds forced me to change my resolution to something higher. I figured it was to force me to see the clouds so I didn't attempt to adjust anything. It turns out, not everyone got the same message as me forcing me to change the resolution. So I ran a higher resolution than what I'm used to and had a hard time picking up dots. I managed to survive the frame, but with many close calls. What was this forced change that warbirds made me take? Can I go ahead and reduce my resolution to what I like? By the way, I never saw all of the clouds I was supposed to, even with the forced change in my resolution.

Also, Thor's screenshots are what I think night should look like as well. You can get that with a daytime setting and a gamma setting of 0.2 or 0.3. I wish that's what night looked like.

I pinged up quite a few of your mossies, with BB's, as they screamed past me. The mossie scourge will end, and a new scourge will begin.

I had a feeling that was you. You were our first contact.

That was extremely fun and intense. Thank you Menacing Ferrets for hosting this event. We were hoping it would be a JG27 sweep as it was a squad effort to test aircraft and crunch the numbers. We knew Kimbo would be some serious competition as he was always right there with us during various practice runs with our squadmates. Zippy had full WEP left at the stacks and might have beat us all if he didn't have his unfortunate incident. Coil never even made a practice run. He showed up on race day, asked on TS what the loadout should be and followed me.

<S> Ferrets and Kimbo, that was a close one!

Oh, by the way, my stop watch must be slow or Rana's is fast. I did a practice run before the race and had my son time me on my stop watch. I then had him time me again during the race. Both times, I got the exact same time, down to the 10th of a second. My timing was 34:23.5 But times don't really matter do they? Big Grin

Fooo, I'm in the same boat. I never fly with a gamma of less than 1.4 in any arena, ever. With some terrains I fly with 1.6 because daylight just doesn't look like daylight for me. This was my argument before. I won't crank it up to 2, but I think it would be fair if we just allow people to use what they normally use. However, if some say that is not fair, I will hobble myself and my squad, a few of which have the same issues as me, and tell them to leave it. We need some concensus on this, or I'm just going with my minimum that I always run and use 1.4. Though I think the terrain we're using is one that I usually use 1.6.

Tough subject to deal with for sure.

Well, couldn't stay past 11 Eastern, I have paper work to catch up on and have an early start in the morning. But for the two hours I was there, from 9 to 11, the sides were balanced, and we were fighting hard. Someone mentioned the WWIIA numbers exceeded the main numbers with over 50 of us in there. That's just cool.

It was a blast!!!

WWII Arena Tonight 01-29-2009 16:29 Forum: S3 Discussion

Hey folks, at the risk of things getting lopsided, I thought I would announce that JG27 will be in the WWIIA tonight. I suspect that the 4th, MF, and elements of the 352nd would probably be there as well. We've been having lots of fun in the WWIIA lately as it's a nice change from the Main. Folks seem to be more respectful there, efforts are made to balance the sides, and we like the settings.

So, if you want something different than the main, join us tonight for some WWIIA fun. Let's try to keep the sides balanced and enjoy some friendly sparring.

The JU87 is not only a bomber, it's a decent dogfighter. It should at least avoid one pass kills. Plus, it's not a flying tank. I'd be happy flying against stukas as a sub.

There hasn't been a TBF since my old days in warbirds. I think you meant the TBD. Gums, for your sake, don't settle for the TBD as is in warbirds. It's a death trap and any kill we LW types get shooting down such flying coffins would not be honorable. I've flown it, and if no one messes with it, it can take off and fly and drop ordanance and all of that, but you will be dead meat the moment we find you. I don't like the SBD flying tank either, but I think that would be more fair than the stinking TBD.

Yikes, the thought of coming up against VMF222 flying hogs is intimidating I must admit. You guys are pretty damn good in them Jugggo. I hope you get the chance to fly them, even if they are a substitute.
