.303 Guns Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Report Post to a Moderator       IP Information Go to the top of this page

How detailed are the gun models in WBs?
Can we have AP and HE rifle caliber rounds?

If so, has anyone looked into the possibility of changing the .303
rounds used by the British birds to one of these types?

It's not quite historical, but I think neither is the damage these
rounds are doing to enemy fighters.

Perhaps change one pair of guns on the 8 gun fighters to fire
7.9 SAFATs?

Odd you mention it...but the Breda-SAFAT 7.9mm in WBs is "actually" a 7.7mm in real life and it could also fire .303 british ammo. So "technically" the ammo fired by the two guns are the same..what Warbirds did to all the guns I have no idea but I can tell they need to do some more research.

To be honest I think the guns are a bit porked. You can control the damage they do and penetration values but you cannot adjust the plane armour values, bullet velocity or the ROF of the guns which seems to be plane specific. Changes dont seem to be linear.
Basically the 50cal does twice the amount of damage as a 303 and has a third higher penetration value but what that actually means is anyones guess.
You cannot scale the rounds based upon normal KE etc. I tried to do that using the 50cal as a base line and I got values totally different than what WBs models.
The more I look at it the more I would like to try all small rounds(lower KE) with the same values, all heavy rounds(higher KE) with the same values and all cannons shells(medium KE + explosive) with the same values. This would of course show up any differences in ROF or round velocity.
